2007 Phoenix (Combloux)

A phoenix is an eternal bird that, according to Greek mythology, cyclically dies only to resurrect from its ashes. It was therefore considered a perfect symbol of constant renewal.

One Summer, my wanderings through the French Alps’ woods brought me to a secluded clearing. In middle of it were the decaying stump of a mighty pinetree.
Somehow it struck me as a most appropriate site to plant a young tree. And so I did, on the top of it, in its very center.

When I returned a few weeks later, it had prospered.
I marveled at this representation of how the youngest generations sink theirs roots in the physical body and, one would imagine, the wealth of knowledge of their predecessors.

2007 Fenice (Combloux)

La fenice è un uccello eterno che, secondo la mitologia greca, muore ciclicamente solo per risorgere dalle sue ceneri. Per questo simboleggiava il costante rinnovamento.

Un’estate, i miei vagabondaggi attraverso i boschi delle Alpi francesi mi hanno portato in una radura isolata. In mezzo c’era il ceppo in decomposizione di un possente abete.
In un certo senso mi è parso un luogo perfettamente appropriato per piantare un giovane albero. E così ho fatto, in cima al ceppo, proprio nel suo centro.

Quando sono tornato poche settimane dopo, aveva prosperato.
Sono rimasto ammirato di questa rappresentazione di come le generazioni più giovani affondano le loro radici nel corpo fisico e, si potrebbe immaginare, nella ricca esperienza dei loro predecessori.
