2020-2019 Raison d’être

At the Palais de la Monnaie in Paris, in one of the historic rooms hosting the Thomas Schutte exhibition, I eluded the strict surveillance of guards and cameras to demarcate two small areas on the old floor tiles of a Salon.

With a tape normally used to delimit construction sites, I orchestrated a tiny foray of bright color and modernity.

Was it subsequently noticed? Yes, for sure. But for the right reasons? Hardly so, I bet. Two weeks later nobody had dared to remove the tape and, certainly, to question its presence.  If these two small squares had been been cordoned, for sure there must have been a reason!

The well-known phrase by Gabriele D’annunzio “cosa fatta capo ha” came to my mind. It means that “a thing once done acquires its own reason for being”. Therefore it can hardly be undone.

A year later I couldn’t resist the temptation to do it again: this time at the Correr Museum in Venice.

2020-2019 Motivo d’essere

Al Palais de la Monnaie di Parigi, in uno dei saloni storici che ospitavano la mostra di Thomas Schutte, ho eluso l’attenta sorveglianza dei custodi e delle videocamere per evidenziare due piccole aree del pavimento piastrellato di una stanza Con del nastro adesivo, che normalmente si utilizza per delimitare i cantieri, ho orchestrato una minuscola incursione di colore brillante e modernità.

Qualcuno se ne è poi accorto? Sì, di sicuro.
Ma per i motivi giusti? Non credo proprio. Due settimane più tardi, nessuno si era ancora preso la briga di togliere il nastro e probabilmente di interrogarsi sulle ragioni della sua presenza.  Avranno pensato: se due piccole porzioni del pavimento sono state delimitate, di sicuro un buon motivo deve pur esserci!

Viene in mente la famosa fase di Gabriele D’annunzio: “Cosa fatta capo ha”. Ovvero quello che è stato fatto, ha una sua ragione d’essere. Di conseguenza difficilmente qualcuno assumerà la responsabilità di disfarla.

Un anno dopo non ho rsistito alla tentazione di riprovarci: questa volta al Museo Correr di Venezia.
