2011 Writing with Light (Milano)

That day I had no idea I would attempt to write with light.

It happened by chance while I was visiting the construction site of a building we were renovating. Some glazed elements on the scaffolfing reflected sunlight on the building on the opposite side of the street creating a bizarre effect. I had never noticed it before, because it only happened for a short time at a definite hour of the day.

Using materials available on site, I immediately had the blacksmith prepare some more or less invented fonts and here is the result.

2011 Scrivere con la luce (Milano)

Quel giorno non avevo idea che avrei provato a scrivere con la luce.
È successo per caso, mentre visitavo il cantiere di un edificio che stavamo rinnovando. Alcuni vetri lasciati sul ponteggio riflettevano la luce solare sull’edificio sul lato opposto della strada, creando un effetto bizzarro. Non l’avevo mai notato prima, perché accadeva solo per un breve momento e a un’ora precisa del giorno.

Usando materiali avanzati in cantiere, ho immediatamente chiesto al fabbro di fabbricare alcuni caratteri più o meno di fantasia e questo è il risultato.

Non ho avuto la possibilità di fare di meglio: la costruzione era quasi terminata e, inoltre, solo un paio di giorni dopo, il sole era già troppo basso per poter illuminare direttamente la facciata e le lettere di metallo.

I never had an opportunity to do better: construction was almost finished and besides, just in a couple of days later, the sun was already too low to illuminate the facade and the metal letters.
