2011 Contemporary Topiary

In 2011, once more I was lucky to experiment with topiary in two rather diverse environments.
The first took place at Villa Torreggiani near Lucca. It is quite small in scale and is inspired by the tradition of labyrinths, even if it is more a two-dimensional abstract sculpture that can only be enjoyed from a vantage point.

The second opportunity was carried out in Combloux in Haute-Savoie, with the enthusiastic help of a farmer. He was breeding goats and sheep, I bought some of his good cheese and we had a chat. He was enthralled by my description of the some of the works completed in the previous years and on the spot we decided to do something together.
We made off-limits some parts of a steep field with the electrified wire that is used to delimit pastures, and left the sheep free to graze in the rest of the pasture.

2011 Topiaria  contemporanea

Nel 2011 ho avuto di nuovo la fortunata possibilità di sperimentare l’arte topiaria in due situazioni davvero diverse.

Il primo è su piccola scala riprende la tradizione dei labirinti, ma è piuttosto una scultura astratta bidimensionale nel disegno godibile da un punto di osservazione privilegiato.

La seconda è stata realizzata sopra Combloux in Alta Savoia con l’aiuto di un allevatore di capre e pecore a cui ho comperato del formaggio e che si è entusiasmato per i miei racconti dei lavori realizzati anni addietro.

Con il filo elettrificato, che si utilizza per delimitare i pascoli, all’interno di un grande campo scosceso  abbiamo reso off-limits alcuni settori, lasciando le pecore libere di brucare nel resto del pascolo.

E’ bastata poco più di una settimana e l’allevatore mi ha mandato le fotografie del risultato.
